Czech Tradition

One of the sweetest Czech traditions came to our door last evening.

Meet Filip and Anet, a dear couple getting married next month. We've known Filip and his family for over twenty years here in the Czech Republic, and Filip serves with KAM, JV's ministry here in Czech. Dave will have the privilege of being the pastor at their wedding, giving the message and leading them in their vows on August 14th.

It meant the world to us that they came to our house to give us a plate of koláče (Czech sweet pastry) with their wedding invitation!

This is one of the traditions that some couples do for their wedding, driving from home to home of their invited guests, delivering a plate full of koláče to each one. It's so personal and meaningful to be on the receiving end of this Czech custom.

It's a labor of love for the bride, groom and their families to do the baking and preparing of these plates, but it's such a sweet tradition!

Thank you for including us Filip and Anet!

  2. I was so used to this tradition as a kid, but now that I'm away from Czech, I see just how special and unique it is! I know from friends that it's exhausting doing the whole process, but it's so personal and meaningful!
