Tyler's 30th Party

It's Tyler's 30th birthday week-end! And his wish, to start it off, was a hike with Dave and Claire!

I drove them to the trail head this morning (they'd finish their hike 16 km later in the place where Claire left her car!), and then headed back home to hang out with these sweet little dudes!

It was SO good to see them after having been away for several weeks! They are just as dear as ever.

We went outside with Lara to pick blueberries in the back of our yard, always a highlight for the boys!

Rain and cold didn't stop us from picking everything that was ripe!

Later on Tyler, Dave and Claire made it home from their spectacular hike in the rain; a cozy afternoon meant books with Aunt Claire.

And fort building in our bedroom with Papa!

While Lara cooked an amazing dinner to celebrate Tyler, we all hung out in the kitchen getting ready for his 30th birthday party!

Earlier in the day, while they were all hiking, the boys and I worked on a birthday sign for Tyler. Judah was happy to take the photo of his dad in front of it.

And happy to pose by it, enjoying the great job he and Asher had done at filling it in with artwork and stickers!

I had some "photo booth" props so took some pictures of Tyler and the boys to commemorate this significant birthday.

As we sat down to Lara's amazing meal for Tyler (salmon poke bowls!), I got a picture of them too!

Afterward it was on to gifts, which the boys love about birthdays! And not just for themselves...they love it when anyone gets gifts!

Judah sat down first in the spot where the gifts were waiting, then I had Tyler sit there for a comparison photo. Can't you just see what Judah will look like in 25 years?!

I themed the gifts that I gave Tyler for this birthday, since it's a decade marker! I gave him a gift that represented each decade (hence the Star Wars lego for his first decade!), including the one he's headed into!

I titled the gifts, as he opened them: Good play, good fashion, good strategy and good craftsmanship!

Then it was time for his birthday dessert, made by Claire...a cherry pie she knew he'd love (made with cherries she'd picked!).

And then it was time for "birthday words", our tradition of many years. I handed Judah my phone so he could take a picture of us as we talked to Tyler. He did a good job, didn't he?!

How we all love Tyler, and happily celebrate the man he is today!!

When he was born in Germany thirty years ago, I remember feeling such depth of love for him, different than anything I'd ever experienced up to that point. And I still feel that way about him!

He is a treasure and gift from the Lord, one who keeps on bringing joy and delight to us, and everyone around him! So so thankful for our Tyler!!
