Quiet and Beauty of Stari Grad

Today it felt like fall arrived on the island of Hvar.

A change in temperature and weather conditions made it feel that way. It was chillier, windier, and grayer all day.

But that didn't stop us from having fun out and about!

On the way to our main destination today, we made a few stops including Vrboska (in the above photo) and the Stari Grad Plains, an area of land where the geometrical land division has virtually stayed intact for 24 centuries, since it was first colonized in 4th century BC!

We hopped out of the car while driving through the plains to see one of the shepherd's huts made out of rocks. It is super impressive that these structures and boundary lines have been preserved for SO long.

Lunch in Stari Grad is notable, given that this is only one of the two or three restaurants open year round on the whole island. ๐Ÿ˜‹  I thought there were only two, but while walking in town today I saw another one open as well. Maybe times are changing!

My favorite thing to do in Stari Grad, whether it's high season or not, is to wander it's amazing streets and soak in the beauty.

And take photos.

This makes me laugh, because the first photo is by my mom...and the second by my dad. At the same time!

There was a never ending supply of cool sights to take pictures of.

I love that my parents enjoy doing this sort of thing.

Now that I think about it...maybe that's where I got it from!

I don't think we saw one person on our walk through the meandering streets. This time of year is awfully quiet.

Out on the riva, along the harbor, there were a few more people. But for the most part, it felt like we had Stari Grad to ourselves today.

And that was okay! Made for some spectacular photos.

On our way back to the house we made a detour down a road I've been wanting to see for years.

Was it ever worth the detour!

Views in many directions that were breathtaking, even on a cloudy day.

I'm so glad we drove down here!

We made it home just in time for a little piano concerto, via FaceTime with my grandson. ๐Ÿ˜„

So fun to spend some time with Tyler, Lara and Judah on the screen today!

That's a wrap for our time in Hvar. We head back to Czech tomorrow, starting with a ferry at 5:30 AM.

I'd better get to bed!

  1. I LOVE seeing all the pictures of you all in Stari Grad and being able to picture that exact places there that we've been to. It is such a beautiful, historic place. The scenic route is incredible too!!!

And then to come home to a concert from Judah just was the icing on the cake. I'm happy with you and for you, my dear friend!!!
