No Longer a Patient

Eleven years ago we started walking through these doors.

First with Tyler, then Caleb, and finally Claire.

Sometimes weekly, mostly monthly...for eleven years. It became a very familiar place, sitting in that waiting room time and time again!

Yesterday, after eleven years of appointments with this woman, our orthodontist, we said goodbye.

She and her nurse have become like family members...adopted aunts who have watched our kids grow up. They are the sweetest, kindest, happiest medical people that I've ever met here! Going to see them regularly over the years was always a pleasure.

We took them gifts and said our words of thanks to them, sharing news and photos of their children and grandchildren. We shared our updates, news and photos of Tyler and Caleb too. It's what you do with "aunts"!

When it was time to go they said to come back any time, bringing news and photos of our lives. They said their patients become like children to them, so they want to hear news of weddings, babies and significant events.

The crazy thing is...we probably WILL go back to share those things!

But now it will be as old friends, not as patients.

  3. Connie,

Thank you for making me feel a tad more normal by sharing this. I have met so many wonderful people in the medical field and truly look forward to seeing them every time. Even the lady who draws my blood. She's one of my favorites!
