A Piece of Home

While we were gone on vacation, a shipping container arrived from the States, partially filled with things that Tyler and Lara shipped over in anticipation of their arrival to Czech later on this year.

Some strong guys unloaded their things into our garage while we were gone, along with something for me.

Since Dave and I have spent our entire married life living in Europe, we never shipped anything from the States to furnish our home here. Oh there was the occasional lamp that I'd purchase in the States and somehow fit into a box or suitcase to bring over! But mostly everything we have is from here.

However, what this has meant is that I don't have anything from my childhood home here.

But when my parents heard that Tyler and Lara were shipping things, it got us talking about one particular item that I grew up with, and that they no longer have space for as they've downsized. I said that if there was any way they could ship it to the location where the container was leaving from (which meant sending it from Oregon to Pennsylvania!), that I'd love to have it.

Last night we finally had time to bring the box in from the garage so I could open it up.

I don't know what year my mom and dad purchased this, but it was in my home for as long as I can remember...a beautiful globe of the world.

I can remember spinning it around as a child many a time, looking at the different continents and wondering what life was like in those places.

Who EVER would have imagined that I'd spend all of my adult life on a different one than the one I grew up on??

It feels SO right to have a piece of my childhood home in my adult home here in Czech. It's much more than just a piece of neat piece of furniture with a light inside so it glows if you turn it on! (Dave says he'll fix it to 220V so we can have it on here!)

It's a connection from the past to the present, reminding me of God's plan all along to call me to himself and lead me to spend my life as a missionary to share Jesus and my life with many. It's a calling I wouldn't trade for anything, and am so thankful that I get to do what I get to do!

Thank you Dad and Mom for planting that seed in me all those years ago by having this globe in our home! And thank you for packing it and mailing it to me so that I could have it here in my home now. It fits perfectly!
