A Portland Day

It's a bleak day in Portland, but that's nothing new here in the Pacific Northwest at this time of year!

As I looked out the window this morning I saw signs of life amidst the gray. And isn't that how life always is? Winter, literally and figuratively, feels so barren and forgetful of spring. And yet God whispers of life in the winter through a little bud, evergreen trees, and birds flitting by. It was such a sweet message from the Lord today as I thought of a number of people in my life and situations we're facing that feel like "winter". But I know spring is coming!

After a leisurely morning with my dear friend Michelle, we stopped by her parents for a visit this afternoon.

Her dad was the pastor of the church I went to back in my college days, when I first met her and her family. They've been such a strong spiritual presence in my life all these years, praying for me, then my family, for nearly 40 years now. Words can't express how dear they are to me!

Michelle and I moseyed our way through the day, shopping, laughing, talking and just enjoying a day together.

Before coming, Michelle had asked me where I wanted to go for dinner. After a fun time of researching Portland restaurants, I asked if we could come here.

Little did I know that ¿Por Qué No? is a famous Portland taqueria! So famous that the line to get in stretches outside and down the block nearly every evening. Perhaps since it was raining tonight, we only had a fifteen minute wait outside instead of what they say can be a much longer one!

On Hawthorne Blvd, a now trendy area of Portland, they serve up some of THE best tacos as well as guacamole and chips!

If you know me, you know I love Mexican and don't get it nearly often enough! What a treat to come to one of Portland's quirky restaurants for such a treat tonight!
