Spontaneous Saturday

These days the first thing I do when I awake is check my phone, wondering if by chance I missed a call or text in the night.

I know in my head that if I don't hear it, Traci, Lara's mom will, and that if she does, she'll come and wake me. Nevertheless, I check my phone for news while my eyes are still blurry from sleep. Why?

We're patiently awaiting the birth of our grandson, Judah, due any time now!

But like every other morning this past week since coming to Chicago-land, there was no news today. So the next question is: "What should we do today?"

Coffee with dad? Sure!

It's been a lot of fun being spontaneous and just figuring out life day by day, hour by hour while we wait!

My parents and I headed out this morning with no real plan, just a GPS and a few ideas of places we'd like to go.

On this brilliant fall day one of the places we ended up in was Libertyville.

Quaint, yet classy, this small town of more than a hundred and fifty years old was delightful to poke around in.

And provided some nourishment along the way! :)

If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend the Lovin' Oven Cakery!

Late in the afternoon we made our way down to Lake Michigan.

One of the "Great Lakes" (there are five of them, all interconnected), it feels more like an ocean than a lake and is quite spectacular to see.

We had fun practicing our "selfie" skills down there!

After taking that photo my mom wanted to take one of my dad and I on her phone. And ended up being in the picture too. Do you see where she is??

I still had my phone camera on "selfie mode" as we posed, so you can see her taking the photo! Cool huh?!

We arrived back at the house to an incredible southern dinner made by Lara's mom and dad.

While staying together at a friend's house, we're having fun taking turns cooking for each other! What a special time to share with them.

Lara and her mom.

Tyler and Lara join us each evening for dinner, and then before they leave I take a photo, just in case it's the last one before she goes into labor.

Who knows, maybe this is it?!

Either I'll be awakened in the night to news that she's on her way to the hospital, or I'll wake up and find out we're still waiting.

No matter what, tomorrow will be a good day as we spend precious time with these two, soon to be three!
