Animals, Keep Out!

When we moved here to our house in 2004, Dave was excited about the opportunity to garden with our family.

But it didn't take long to figure out that there were some difficulties to overcome here - one of them being the amount of wildlife who tramp through our yard.

This year, for the first time, Dave and Tyler are taking measures to see that we can actually grow a garden without their interference!

After careful planning and preparation, today is the "put up the fence" day to keep the deer, rabbits, and neighborhood chickens from doing damage to our vegetables.

They're hopeful that this will be a deterrent to them making our garden their dinner!

While they worked, Lara and the boys hung out in the hammock, strung up close to the ground so the boys could look at books and enjoy watching their dad and Papa work on the fence.

After several hours this morning, they had it done!

There's an ingenious gate that isn't necessarily visible to the eye, but is there so humans can get in. Not that we don't appreciate the animals who live around us, but this is one place we really don't want to see them!

I'm looking forward to watching the garden grow, and hopefully thrive, this year without the presence of those animals.
